Marc Casadó is once again an important file for FC Barcelona ahead of the next market. The club officially renewed the midfielder in June 2024 until June 30, 2028, a clear sign that they consider him a valuable asset. However, his sporting situation has changed a lot in recent months.
The big news is that Atlético Madrid have moved strongly for him again. Barca Universal, citing SPORT, and Get Spanish Football News report that the Madrid club have reactivated their interest. They also claim Enrique Cerezo personally conveyed that interest to Joan Laporta in mid-April.
That confirms this is not just an isolated rumour. It is a real route that remains alive ahead of the summer. And inside Barça, the case is starting to generate serious debate.
Casadó has lost weight in the team
The sporting context explains why his name is sounding strongly again. Cadena SER reported in April that Casadó had asked his agent to listen to offers because of his lack of prominence this season. The same outlet detailed that he had played 1,275 minutes in all competitions.
Despite still wanting to succeed at Barça, the midfielder already understood that his situation had become more complicated. That change in role has made several clubs look at him again. Barca Universal adds that, besides Atlético, Saudi clubs and other European sides have also asked about him.
Barça know this is one of the delicate files of the summer. The club need income, but they also do not want to easily lose a homegrown player. That balance will be key in deciding what happens.
Atlético push, but Casadó does not give up
Atlético’s interest is not new. The same reports state that the Madrid club have been monitoring the midfielder for some time. Diego Simeone particularly appreciates his intensity, tactical discipline and competitive mentality.
That is why Atlético believe his profile could fit very well into their style. Casadó is a player who understands order, effort and defensive commitment. Those traits make him attractive for a coach like Simeone.
Even so, there is one key nuance that changes the reading of the operation. Casadó wants to stay at Barça. Barca Universal and Get Spanish Football News both stress that, despite his loss of prominence and the offers appearing around him, the academy player still sees Barça as his first option.
Deco must decide
That position does not completely close the door to an exit. But it does force any suitor to wait for a clearer change in the scenario. If Casadó maintains his desire to stay, Atlético will need Barça and the player to align before anything serious can happen.
The conclusion at Camp Nou is becoming quite clear. Atlético Madrid have already called, the market is moving and Barça know Marc Casadó could shake up the summer. At the same time, the player has not given up and still believes he can earn a place in the squad.
That leaves the pressure on Deco’s desk. The club must decide whether to prioritise a useful sale or protect a player with a long contract, Barça identity and room to grow. Today, Atlético’s interest is real. But so is one thing: Casadó is not giving up yet.
Caution note: this situation is based on reports from Barca Universal, SPORT, Get Spanish Football News and Cadena SER, not an official negotiation completed between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid.
