Alejandro Balde is back in a delicate file inside FC Barcelona. Manchester City are reportedly studying an offer close to €70 million. The figure is impressive, although Barça still distrust that possibility for now.
The situation is not seen as an advanced negotiation, but as market noise. Barça have not received a formal proposal forcing an immediate decision yet. However, a figure like that always changes the tone of internal conversations.
City look for a full-back with depth
Manchester City need to strengthen their left side ahead of next season. The English club want young, physical profiles capable of sustaining high rhythm. In that scenario, Balde fits through speed, depth and line-breaking power.
The Barça full-back has very attractive conditions for any dominant team. He can attack open spaces, recover backwards and offer constant width. That profile explains why his name appears on City’s radar.
The possible arrival of Enzo Maresca would add more noise to the operation. The coach knows City’s structure and playing model very well. Even so, the interest remains far from becoming a completed signing.
Barça do not want to look weak
Barça know the Premier League can pay figures almost impossible to ignore. €70 million for a left-back would be huge for their economy. Fair Play still conditions signings, exits and registrations inside the Catalan club.
The sporting department, however, do not want to show Balde is available. The player has a contract until 2028 and came through La Masia. That contractual protection allows Barça to negotiate calmly if a real offer arrives.
Internally, the debate would be very complex because Balde mixes present and future. Selling him would bring immediate money, but also create a sporting need. Hansi Flick would need a reliable solution for a very sensitive position.
A sale with sporting impact
Balde has not had a completely regular season, but his ceiling remains high. Injuries and ups and downs have reduced part of his influence. Even so, he remains one of Europe’s most interesting young full-backs.
Barça must decide between backing his recovery or listening to important offers. The player’s age suggests he can still grow much more. Finding a reliable replacement would also be neither simple nor cheap.
The market offers full-backs, but few combine youth, experience and Barça identity. That is why accepting a sale would require a very clear plan. The money would help, but the sporting gap could hurt later.
The outcome depends on the real offer
For now, Barça do not consider any definitive City offensive as confirmed. The €70 million figure creates debate, but still belongs to reports. The club will only move if a formal proposal reaches the offices.
Balde’s will would also be decisive if the English interest grows. The full-back has always shown a strong connection with Barça and the club. Without his approval, any City attempt would have a shorter path.
The summer can test Barça’s economic and sporting resistance once again. Balde is not sold, but a huge offer can change planning. If City turn the rumour into reality, Barça will face a gigantic dilemma.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Manchester City and Alejandro Balde.
