Marcus Rashford’s continuity at Barcelona has cooled again, just when the operation seemed to be entering a decisive phase. Manchester United are not happy with Barça’s attempt to reduce the agreed price. That clash leaves the English winger’s future much more open than it looked a few weeks ago.
The operation has one very clear point that Old Trafford do not want to touch. The loan agreement includes a €30 million purchase option for this summer. Any attempt from Barça to renegotiate that figure is being seen in England as an uncomfortable move.
That detail changes the context of a deal that is still far from closed. United have already made it clear that they do not want new talks to lower the price. If Barça do not pay the agreed amount, their plan is simple: Rashford returns to Manchester.
Barça have doubts and United will not move
Inside Barcelona, the Rashford case continues to generate doubts because of cost and financial fit. The transfer fee matters, but his salary also conditions the whole operation. That is why the club are asking whether such an effort really makes sense.
Barça have also been working on alternatives for the left wing for some time. That explains why keeping the Englishman is no longer seen as an absolute priority everywhere. The club want room to decide without feeling forced to accept every condition.
The problem is that United do not seem willing to wait forever or renegotiate. In England, they believe Rashford’s spell in Spain has even raised his market value again. That is why they will not lower the price and may even expect another club to pay more.
His level helps, but does not solve everything
Sportingly, Rashford has shown signs that he can be useful in Hansi Flick’s Barça. His performances have added arguments for those who believe he should stay. In a squad that still needs directness and depth, his profile has obvious value.
But playing well in some moments is different from accepting a tense and expensive operation. Barcelona do not want to overpay, and Manchester United do not want to step back. That is the major blockage now putting his continuity in doubt.
The conclusion around the market is becoming quite clear. United are frustrated, Barça still want to reduce the operation and Rashford’s future is getting complicated. If nobody gives ground soon, his possible continuity could turn into an almost inevitable return to England.
