Barcelona are still watching Anthony Gordon, but the operation already comes with a huge obstacle. Newcastle United are asking for around €85 million to sell him this summer. Inside Barça, both the price and the overall context are considered extremely demanding.
That figure is not surprising given his current importance in the English club’s project. Newcastle renewed his contract in October 2024 with a long-term deal until June 2030. That gives the Premier League side enormous strength to resist pressure and maintain a very firm position.
For Barça, that contract length changes everything in any possible negotiation. This is not a player entering the final stage of his deal or pushing for an easy exit. Newcastle control the timing, the price and the conditions around his future.
His salary is already high in England
Right now, Gordon earns an estimated base salary of around £150,000 per week. That means approximately £7.8 million gross per season, without including potential bonuses. Converted into euros, his current fixed salary is close to €9 million gross per year.
That figure alone would already require a serious salary effort from Barça. The club are still managing a delicate wage structure and cannot add major contracts without planning carefully. Any move for Gordon would therefore affect not only the transfer budget, but also the salary margin.
If Gordon left Newcastle, it would be logical for him to ask for a similar or slightly higher salary. A reasonable estimate would place his demand between €9 million and €10 million gross per year. That is not an official negotiated figure, but a projection based on his current salary and market position.

What Barça would need to pay
The total operation would be extremely heavy for the club’s accounts. Barça would need to face an €85 million transfer fee and a salary close to €10 million gross per season. In the current Financial Fair Play context, that makes the move very difficult.
Gordon’s profile is liked because of his pace, pressing, dribbling and ability to play in several attacking roles. His recent numbers also explain why major clubs continue to monitor him closely. He is young, competitive and already established in one of Europe’s most demanding leagues.
But liking a player and being able to sign him are two very different things for Barça today. The club must choose very carefully where to place its biggest investment this summer. And with Gordon, the financial package is already at an elite level.
A very expensive luxury for Barça
The conclusion inside Barcelona is quite clear with this operation on the table. Anthony Gordon is liked, but his price and salary make him an extremely difficult target. Newcastle have no need to sell cheaply, and the player’s contract gives them total control.
Unless Barça make a major sale first, the move looks very hard to imagine. Paying €85 million plus a salary near €10 million would stretch the operation enormously. Right now, Anthony Gordon looks more like a luxury target than a realistic signing.
