Julián Álvarez is once again at the centre of FC Barcelona’s transfer market. According to Germán García Grova, via Albiceleste Talk, the striker will continue pushing to leave Atlético Madrid. His great desire would be to join the blaugrana project and become the new attacking leader.
Barça, for their part, have no intention of abandoning an extremely complicated operation. The Catalan club are expected to return with another proposal on the table. The idea is to get closer to Atlético and measure how far the player can really force the situation.
The major obstacle remains the position of the Madrid club, who do not want to sell him. Julián has a contract with Atlético until 2030 and very strong contractual protection. That situation allows the Metropolitano side to resist any movement they do not consider extraordinary.
Julián’s desire changes the board
The most important point in this story is no longer only money. In Barcelona, they believe the player’s will could eventually become a decisive lever. If Julián holds his position, Atlético will have to manage an uncomfortable problem.
According to recent reports, the Argentine has already given clear signs. Barça appear as his preferred destination ahead of other major European clubs. That preference explains why Deco is keeping such a demanding operation alive.
El País reported that Barça are working on an offer close to €100 million. SPORT also placed a first proposal at around €90 million plus bonuses. Even so, Atlético have publicly denied receiving any formal offer from the blaugrana club.
Atlético resist and stand firm
Atlético’s reaction shows that the operation is already creating clear tension between the clubs. The Madrid side have communicated that Julián is not for sale and that they do not intend to facilitate his exit. They have even publicly shown frustration over leaks surrounding the possible transfer.
AS reported that Atlético sources denied receiving an offer from Barça. They also described those reports as false and stressed that the player is part of their project. That message aims to slow down media pressure before the market enters its decisive phase.
But Barça interpret that these kinds of operations always need time, pressure and patience. The first refusal from the selling club does not mean the file is closed. If Julián insists and Barça improve their proposal, the scenario could still change.
PSG and Arsenal are also watching
Barça are not alone in a race that could move huge amounts of money this summer. PSG and Arsenal have closely followed the Argentine striker’s situation in recent weeks. However, the player’s will could alter the financial strength of those suitors.
Cadena SER reported that PSG may have partially stepped away from the race. The reason would be that in Paris they perceive Julián clearly prioritises the blaugrana option. That detail gives Barça some breathing room, although Arsenal remain a threat from the Premier League.
For Deco, the Argentine represents much more than a simple attacking signing. He is mobile, aggressive, competitive and ready to lead for many years. Hansi Flick sees him as a piece capable of transforming Barça’s pressing and attacking structure.
Barça prepare another attempt
The departure of Robert Lewandowski forces Barça to find a differential striker this summer. The signing of Anthony Gordon strengthens the wing, but it does not close the search for a number nine. That is why Julián remains a priority in the sporting plan.
The club know they will need a very strong proposal to truly bring Atlético to the table. They could also try to include variables, payment terms or formulas that soften the economic impact. But without pressure from the player, any offer would have far fewer chances of progressing.
The outcome is still far away, although the operation is entering an increasingly heated phase. Julián will keep pushing, Barça are preparing another move and Atlético are trying to resist. And that is the twist: if the player does not give up, the signing will remain alive.
Caution note: This situation is based on reports from Germán García Grova, Albiceleste Talk, El País, SPORT, AS and Cadena SER. At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid or Julián Álvarez.
