FC Barcelona continues working on its plans for next season, and one of the main priorities for the sporting department is strengthening the defensive line. In that context, a very interesting opportunity has appeared on the European transfer market.
The player in question is Marcos Senesi, currently a centre-back for AFC Bournemouth. The defender’s contract expires on June 30, which means he will soon be free to negotiate with any club.
That situation automatically turns him into one of the most appealing free agents of the upcoming transfer window, as he is already an established defender in the Premier League and could arrive without a transfer fee.
Bournemouth confirm his departure
Senesi’s future already appears to be decided. The Argentine centre-back will leave Bournemouth at the end of the season and will not continue with the English club.
The decision has effectively been confirmed internally. Sporting director Tiago Pinto publicly explained that the defender will run down his contract and leave as a free agent in the summer.
The main reason behind this situation is the player’s own desire to begin a new chapter in his career.
During the current campaign, Senesi has played around 30 matches and has established himself as one of the most important figures in Bournemouth’s defensive line.
Barça studying the possibility
Barcelona is one of the clubs closely monitoring the Argentine defender’s situation. Inside the club’s offices, the fact that he could arrive without a transfer fee is particularly attractive given the current financial situation.
In addition, his profile fits well with the type of defender Barcelona is looking for.
Senesi is a left-footed centre-back, comfortable in possession and experienced in one of Europe’s most demanding leagues. These qualities align with the defensive profile that Hansi Flick wants in his system.
Bastoni remains the priority
Despite the interest in Senesi, Barcelona’s main objective for the defence remains Alessandro Bastoni from Inter Milan.
However, signing the Italian defender would be far more complicated financially, as his transfer value could exceed €80 million.
For that reason, Barcelona continues to keep alternative options open in case that operation becomes impossible.
Senesi willing to wait for Barça
According to several reports, Senesi would welcome the opportunity to join Barcelona and could even be willing to wait for a potential move before deciding his next club.
The defender believes that playing in La Liga and joining a club like Barcelona would represent an important step forward in his career.
Even so, the Catalan club is maintaining a cautious position and will not make a final decision until it sees how the transfer market evolves.
Meanwhile, other clubs such as Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are also keeping a close eye on the defender’s situation.
