Barcelona have once again looked at LaLiga to strengthen their attack ahead of next summer. Inside the Camp Nou offices, Mikel Oyarzabal’s name is gaining strength with real logic. The Real Sociedad captain appears as a very serious opportunity for around €25 million.
The operation is liked because it responds to a very specific need in the new Barça project. Hansi Flick wants attackers who can perform from day one and do not need a long adaptation. That is where Oyarzabal fits through character, experience, tactical intelligence and total knowledge of the league.
At 29 years old, the Spanish international is in full competitive maturity in LaLiga. He remains one of the most reliable players in Spanish football because of his performance and consistency. That is why Barça believe his signing would make much more sense than it may seem.
Flick wants more than talent
The sporting department do not want a showpiece signing or an exotic bet for the attack. The objective is to add players who provide immediate solutions and raise the team’s competitive level. In that context, Oyarzabal offers exactly what the club value most right now.
He can play as a winger, as a second striker or even as a mobile reference in certain matches. He also reads spaces well and knows how to live in long attacks and phases without the ball. That type of footballer appeals to Flick, who demands intelligence and constant sacrifice.
Inside Barça, they also greatly value his leadership and real weight in a demanding dressing room. He is not only an attacker with numbers, because he also organises, competes and balances the team. After the Champions League blow, that profile has even more value.
Real Sociedad do not want to sell
The main obstacle remains Real Sociedad’s position this summer. Oyarzabal has a contract until 2028, and his release clause currently stands at €75 million. That figure is out of Barça’s reach, but another scenario is already being discussed around the operation.
The route that attracts Barça most would be a negotiation much closer to €25 million. That would be a far more reasonable amount for the club’s current financial situation. It would also fit the idea of signing without breaking the project’s economic balance.
The key would be for Oyarzabal himself to ask Real Sociedad to study a reasonable exit. It would not be a sudden rupture, but an elegant request before a major sporting opportunity. If that happens, the picture could change much faster than expected.
A quiet signing with real logic
Barcelona know convincing Real Sociedad will not be easy under any circumstances. He is their captain, a recent symbol and a player with enormous weight at the club. Even so, Barça believe this operation has more sporting logic than external noise suggests.
For around €25 million, Barça would sign goals, character, experience and immediate LaLiga adaptation. It would not be the most media-heavy signing of the summer, but it could be one of the most coherent. If the market moves as Camp Nou expect, Oyarzabal could gain a lot of strength.
Caution note: this situation is based on reported interest and a possible negotiation scenario, not an official agreement between Barcelona and Real Sociedad.
