The Barcelona sporting director remains an admirer of João Pedro, but Chelsea’s position has left any potential move completely blocked.
FC Barcelona continue to monitor the transfer market for attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season. One player who has long been admired by Deco is João Pedro, a forward the sporting director has followed closely since his time at Brighton.
However, the current market situation tells a very different story. Chelsea have taken a firm stance and have no intention of allowing the Brazilian attacker to leave this summer.
Chelsea shut the door
Despite recent speculation linking Barça with the forward, the message from Chelsea is clear. The Premier League club considers João Pedro an important part of its long-term project and is not willing to negotiate his departure.
That position leaves virtually no room for discussions between the clubs. At the moment, the Brazilian is simply not available on the transfer market.
Deco remains a big admirer
The Blaugrana sporting department, led by Deco, has been tracking João Pedro’s progress for several seasons. His versatility across the frontline and long-term potential fit the profile Hansi Flick and the club value.
Even so, that admiration has not developed into concrete negotiations. With Chelsea refusing to consider a sale, the striker is not viewed as a realistic reinforcement at this stage.
Barça continue exploring other targets
As the transfer window moves forward, FC Barcelona are keeping multiple options open to strengthen their attack. Deco does not want the club to focus exclusively on deals that appear impossible to complete.
The twist is clear: João Pedro remains one of Deco’s favorite profiles, but Chelsea’s firm position has forced Barça to shift their attention toward more realistic alternatives.
