The sporting department has made its decision after learning the financial demands surrounding one of its attacking alternatives.
FC Barcelona have already decided the future of one of the forwards who had emerged as an alternative to strengthen the attack. Although Eli Junior Kroupi was highly rated by the sporting department, the club has reportedly put the operation on hold for both sporting and financial reasons. Julián Álvarez remains the priority.
The stance taken by AFC Bournemouth has proven decisive. The Premier League club have reportedly made it clear that they have no intention of selling the young striker during this transfer window. That message has reshaped Barça’s plans.
Barça halt the operation
According to Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona will not continue pursuing Eli Junior Kroupi for the time being. AFC Bournemouth have informed interested clubs that the player is not available for transfer this summer. As a result, Barça have suspended any further discussions.
Without room for negotiations, the operation has effectively been frozen. Deco is now focusing on more realistic opportunities in the market. The club is unwilling to waste resources on an unattainable target.
The €100 million price changes everything
According to Roger Torelló, AFC Bournemouth’s valuation of around €100 million ultimately convinced Barça to abandon this route. Club officials reportedly believe that such an investment should only be made for a player already established among the world’s elite. That assessment has guided the sporting department’s decision.
That profile fits Julián Álvarez far more closely than any other available option. Deco and Hansi Flick continue to view the Argentine as the ideal striker to strengthen the squad. He remains the club’s dream target despite the complexity of the deal.
Julián Álvarez remains the main objective
The decision to step away from Kroupi confirms that FC Barcelona’s transfer strategy has not changed. The sporting department will continue concentrating its efforts on trying to sign Julián Álvarez, even though negotiations with Atlético Madrid remain extremely difficult. Patience continues to be part of the club’s approach.
The twist is clear: Barça have walked away from a €100 million alternative because Julián Álvarez is still the striker they truly want.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement involving FC Barcelona, Julián Álvarez, or Eli Junior Kroupi, and the reported transfer plans remain subject to change.
