Ansu Fati is now on the verge of completing his permanent departure from FC Barcelona this summer. According to Fabrizio Romano, the forward will join AS Monaco on a permanent transfer. The deal is expected to be worth €11 million, with Barcelona also securing an important percentage of any future sale.
The move brings an end to a chapter filled with promise, injuries, patience and several twists along the way. Ansu was once viewed as the natural heir to some of the club’s biggest nights at Camp Nou. However, physical setbacks and growing competition gradually changed the course of his career.
Monaco have decided to make a long-term commitment after seeing encouraging signs during his spell in France. The player is also willing to continue his journey there and build on the progress he has made. He is expected to work under Filipe Luís, who has been linked with the Monaco job.
Barcelona will not have a buy-back clause
The most important detail of the agreement concerns the structure of the deal. According to Romano, Barcelona will not hold a traditional buy-back option on Ansu Fati. In other words, the club will not be able to bring him back automatically by paying a pre-agreed fee.
However, Barça have negotiated a significant future sell-on percentage. That clause allows the club to benefit financially if Monaco decide to sell the player in the coming years. Given Barcelona’s continued focus on financial flexibility, those future rights could prove valuable.
Romano also reports that Barcelona would enjoy more favourable conditions than other clubs if they ever decided to re-sign Ansu. While it is not an official buy-back clause, it effectively gives the Catalan side an economic advantage in any future negotiations.
Monaco are backing his future
Monaco already had a purchase option included in the original loan agreement. The €11 million fee has now become the final figure expected to complete the transfer. For the French club, the investment is considered reasonable given Ansu’s age, talent and recent performances.
The forward needed an environment where he could play regularly and rebuild his confidence. Back in Barcelona, his path to first-team football had become increasingly difficult. The arrival of new attacking options and the club’s search for further reinforcements reduced his chances even more.
In France, though, he has rediscovered playing time, confidence and a structure that suits his development. Monaco believe there is still a highly competitive player waiting to emerge. That belief is why personal terms were the final major obstacle before completing the agreement.
A departure that helps Barcelona
From Barcelona’s perspective, the transfer also makes financial sense. The club will receive €11 million while removing an important salary from the wage bill. That combination provides additional room for other operations during the summer window.
The move does not solve every financial challenge, but it does resolve a complicated situation. Ansu had a long contract, limited opportunities and an increasingly difficult position within the squad. Keeping him without a clear role was becoming problematic for everyone involved.
Barcelona still need resources to pursue other targets this summer. Several high-profile names remain on the club’s agenda, making outgoing transfers just as important as incoming signings.
The end of a special story
For many Barça supporters, Ansu’s departure will carry a strong emotional weight. He was the teenager who electrified Camp Nou, inherited the number ten shirt and broke records at a remarkably young age. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from fully establishing himself at the highest level.
Barcelona are not completely losing their connection to the player. If Ansu explodes at Monaco and earns a major transfer in the future, the club will benefit financially. And should they ever want to bring him back, they would enjoy more favourable terms than other interested teams.
The outcome now appears to be only a matter of time. Ansu stays at Monaco, Barcelona receive a transfer fee and retain a valuable future interest. The twist is clear: there is no buy-back clause, but Barça are not saying goodbye completely.
Caution note: This report is based primarily on information from Fabrizio Romano and other media reports. At the time of writing, neither FC Barcelona nor AS Monaco have officially announced the permanent transfer. Details of the agreement, including the exact future sell-on percentage and any preferential re-signing clauses, remain subject to official confirmation.
