FC Barcelona are already working with a very clear plan for the upcoming summer window. According to the latest information, the club is preparing a major signing worth between €80 and €90 million. It would be a strategic move aimed at raising the team’s competitive ceiling immediately.
After the Champions League setback, there is a strong feeling inside the club that big decisions are now unavoidable. Hansi Flick wants a deeper, more balanced squad that better fits his system. That means targeting a high-impact signing capable of transforming the team.
Right now, the debate is not about the budget itself. The real question is where to invest that money. Inside the club, three clear paths have emerged.
Bastoni emerges as the defensive priority
The first option focuses on the heart of the defense, a position heavily exposed this season. The standout name is Alessandro Bastoni, who perfectly fits the profile Barça are looking for.
He offers ball progression, leadership, and the ability to defend in a high line, making him ideal for Flick’s system. Inside the club, they believe one signing like Bastoni could solve multiple structural issues at once.
The main obstacle, as expected, is the negotiation with Inter Milan. Still, Barça are aware that players of his level and profile are rarely available, which keeps him high on the shortlist.

Julián Álvarez, the attacking revolution
The second option shifts focus to the attack. Here, the name gaining serious traction is Julián Álvarez.
Flick sees him as a perfect modern forward: mobile, aggressive, and capable of pressing and scoring. His versatility allows him to play as a striker or drop deeper, offering tactical flexibility.
The issue is not convincing the player, but dealing with Atlético de Madrid. Negotiating with a direct rival makes this one of the toughest deals on the market, and the final price could be very high.

A top full-back also in the equation
The third option leads to the flanks of the defense. Barça still have internal doubts about consistency in those positions, and Flick wants more reliability, depth, and physical presence.
A top-level full-back would bring balance, attacking width, and defensive stability, especially in big European nights. It’s a less glamorous move, but one that could significantly improve the team’s structure.
A decisive summer ahead
Everything will depend on sales, Financial Fair Play, and the final decision made by Deco and Flick. But one thing is already clear inside the club:
Barça are preparing a major investment — and it will be one of these three paths: Bastoni, Julián Álvarez, or a top full-back.
