The Frenchman does not want to leave, but his exit fully conditions the signing of a new full-back.
Jules Koundé is no longer one of the untouchable names inside FC Barcelona. The French defender has been mentioned in recent meetings, and the club will listen to good proposals. The situation does not mean a guaranteed exit, but it does mark an important planning change.
The player maintains a clear position: he does not want to leave Barça this summer. He has a long contract, feels important and wants to keep competing at the Camp Nou. However, the sporting department no longer rules out studying it if a huge offer arrives.
Koundé enters a new phase
A few months ago, Koundé’s continuity seemed almost outside any internal debate. His versatility, experience and ability to play full-back or centre-back gave him huge weight. But the market, economic needs and Flick’s plans have changed the scenario.
Barça are not pushing the Frenchman towards the door, but will not close that file completely. If a high proposal appears, Deco will have to place it on the table. The key will be whether the money compensates for losing such a useful player.
Koundé still has major market value in Europe, especially because of his physique and versatility. He can play right-back, right centre-back or even adapt to a back three. That profile explains why any sale would need to move around very important figures
The player wants to stay
The biggest obstacle for any operation is Koundé’s own will. The Frenchman is not looking for an exit or showing desire to change project. His idea is to continue at Barça and fight for an important role under Hansi Flick.
That desire forces the club to move carefully, because this is not a simple sale. Koundé has a contract until 2030 and is not in a weak position. Any club wanting him must convince Barça and also convince the player.
Barça can listen to proposals, but that does not mean accepting anything this summer. The club know losing him would force them to rebuild an important defensive area. That file will only advance if a truly beneficial operation appears.
The full-back depends on his exit
The most important point is Barça’s right-back planning for next season. The club will not sign a new full-back while Koundé remains in the squad. Only if the Frenchman leaves will Deco activate a real search for that position.
This decision makes sense because the squad needs balance, salary space and defined roles. Signing another full-back without selling Koundé first would create sporting and economic problems. Flick does not want to accumulate names, but build a clear and competitive defence.
The club have already been linked with several wide defensive profiles during this market. But those names remain frozen while the Frenchman’s future does not move. Koundé’s exit would be the real button activating the entire domino effect.
A decision that could change the defence
The situation leaves Barça in an uncomfortable position because Koundé offers scarce solutions. He does not always shine, but he sustains many tactical contexts and helps the coach. Losing him would mean seeking speed, experience, physique and reliability in an expensive market.
At the same time, a major sale could help finance other priority operations this summer. The club need margin to sign, register and strengthen areas Flick considers key. That tension between performance and money makes the Koundé case extremely sensitive.
The Frenchman does not want to leave, but Barça no longer consider him untouchable in every scenario. Everything will depend on the size of the offer and the player’s final position. The twist is clear: if Koundé leaves, Barça’s market could change completely within days.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between Barça, Jules Koundé and any interested club.
