The Catalan club has requested an exceptional measure that could affect its home matches during part of the 2027/28 season.
FC Barcelona are already planning the next major stage of the Spotify Camp Nou redevelopment. The club has reportedly asked LaLiga for permission to play the first half of the 2027/28 season at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. The request is linked to one of the most complex phases of the stadium project.
Camp Nou’s roof installation changes the plan
According to recent reports, Barcelona expects to install the permanent roof of the Spotify Camp Nou during that period. The construction work could make it impossible to host matches safely inside the stadium. As a result, the club has decided to prepare an alternative venue in advance.
The proposed temporary return to Montjuïc is intended to allow construction to continue without major interruptions. Club officials believe this solution would help keep the renovation project on schedule. Completing the stadium remains one of Barça’s highest strategic priorities.
LaLiga must give the green light
Although the request has already been submitted, the move has not yet been officially approved. LaLiga must review the proposal before authorizing Barcelona to play home matches away from the Spotify Camp Nou. Until then, the plan remains subject to official confirmation.
Inside the club, there is optimism that the request will be accepted. Approval would allow construction to continue while respecting the planned timeline for the stadium’s completion. It would also minimize disruption to the first team’s competitive schedule.
Barça remain focused on the future
The redevelopment of the Spotify Camp Nou continues to be one of the most ambitious projects in the club’s history. Every decision is being made to balance sporting demands with long-term infrastructure goals. The objective is to deliver a world-class stadium without compromising the team’s competitiveness.
For now, Barcelona are waiting for LaLiga’s final decision. The twist is clear: Barça are prepared to return temporarily to Montjuïc if it helps complete the final transformation of the new Camp Nou.
Caution note: At the time of writing, LaLiga has not officially approved FC Barcelona’s request, and the proposed temporary return to Montjuïc for part of the 2027/28 season remains pending authorization.
