The Madrid club remain firm over the future of Julián Álvarez and have no intention of helping a direct rival strengthen its squad.
The pursuit of Julián Álvarez remains one of FC Barcelona’s biggest transfer ambitions. However, the latest reports paint a very difficult picture for the Catalan club. Barça continue monitoring the situation while Atlético Madrid refuse to soften their stance.
According to recent reports, Atlético Madrid have no intention of negotiating with Barça. The club’s priority is preventing one of its most valuable players from joining a direct title rival. That position reportedly remains unchanged despite the ongoing transfer window.
Atlético maintain their veto
The reports claim that Atlético Madrid will not sell Julián Álvarez to FC Barcelona. Club officials believe strengthening a direct competitor would go against their sporting interests. As a result, the door remains firmly closed for Barça.
The relationship between both clubs has also reportedly become more strained in recent weeks. The handling of this potential transfer has allegedly caused frustration inside the Madrid club. That tension has made negotiations even more complicated.
Only one alternative remains
According to the same reports, Arsenal would be the only club Atlético Madrid would consider negotiating with for the Argentine striker. Such a move would avoid strengthening a direct LaLiga rival. That scenario currently appears far more acceptable for the Spanish side.
Meanwhile, Deco continues following the situation closely despite the difficult circumstances. Barça’s sporting department knows Atlético’s position is the biggest obstacle to completing the operation. Even so, the interest in the Argentine forward remains alive.
The transfer window could still change everything
The transfer market is still open, meaning circumstances could evolve before the deadline arrives. The player’s intentions, fresh talks between clubs, or unexpected moves elsewhere may still reshape the situation. Nothing has been officially decided yet.
The twist is clear: Barça still dream of signing Julián Álvarez, but Atlético Madrid remain determined not to strengthen one of their biggest rivals.
Caution note: At the time of writing, there is no official agreement between FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, and Julián Álvarez, and the reported situation remains subject to change.
