De Ligt to Barca : It’s getting closer
The mutual interest between De Ligt to Barca goes a long way. The board sees the young CB as the perfect successor to Pique. In addition, just as with De Jong, Barca see the transfer of De Ligt to Barca as a strategic transfer. De Ligt seems to be a generational defender, and will guaranty the CB position for more than a decade.
According to ‘Sport’, Barcelona had practically discarded the Dutchman because of the fierce competition in the Barca defence. However, De Ligt himself told Barca he is willing to accept this challenge. Therefore, he is confident in his ability to earn his place in the team.
Alongside to Barca, other big teams made their bids for De Ligt: PSG, Bayern, Juve and Atletico to name a few. However, the young CB has told his agent Raiola that his priority is Barca. The Dutchman is betting on the Barca sports project more than the money. Thus, recent reports suggest that Barca has a big advantage over their competitors. But, nothing is official yet.
Vital in next season’s plans
When asked about the situation, the club’s president Bartomeu told that right now nothing is closed. However, in this month the technical staff will meet to start planning the next season. Therefore, according to the president himself, the name of De Ligt will be on the table when those meetings will happen.
Is the arrival of De Ligt means a big player will leave? There are a lot of rumors suggesting that the arrival of both De Ligt and De Jong will mean Barca will need to sell. However, Bartomeu assured that the club will not need to sell any player in order to finance arrivals.
The main reasons the transfer of De Ligt to Barca seems close: the similarity of Ajax and Barca’s style, and De Jong. It’s no secret that Barca and Ajax has a very close philosophy and style. So, It seems natural for the young center back to play in Barca, and his adaption should be easy. In addition, the fact that his good friend De Jong already closed his transfer to Barca, makes De Ligt’s decision much easier. Both of the Dutch wonderkids said many times that they will be happy to play together, and now it’s possible.
